NBA Makurdi Branch Holds Advisory Committee Meeting

The Advisory Committee, an arm of the Nigerian Bar Association has held her maiden meeting under the Justin Gbagir NBA led Exco on the 21st day of July,2020 at Precious event Centre Makurdi Benue State.
The meeting which is one of the standing committee provided in for the uniform of the Bye Law of all Branches that is to guide and in in way regulate the conduct of erring Lawyers within the jurisdiction.
In his address of welcome, the Nigerian Bar Association Chairman, Makurdi Branch, Justin Gbagir Esq welcomed the distinguished Senior Advocate of Nigeria, some who joined via zoom platform and Elders of the Branch to the meeting. He raised several issues for consideration by the Advisory Committee.
Some of the key issues raised by the chairman included; reorganization of office and staff, Bar Bench relationship, professional ethics, etiquette and discipline, sports and toilet
convenience at the High Court premises.
Justin Gbagir said the enormous responsibility of the Advisory Committee is to advice the Executive Committee to serve in line with best practices. He prayed that the committee will live up to its responsibility.
The Advisory Committee Chairman Bernard I. Hom SAN, thanked everyone for finding time out to attend the meeting and that he is grateful to God for his appointment as the Chairman. The revered SAN hampered on the need for unity and peace among lawyers. He reiterated that members of the noble profession should see themselves as professional colleagues. He also encouraged everyone to put aside their differences and embrace peace.
Chief Dr. Caroline Mbafan Ekpendu said some of the Court premises have conveniences but they are not well kept for lawyers to use, while other Courts do not have at all. She called on the Seniors and Elders
of the Legal profession to look into the issue with urgency
Tom Ujah, Esq opined that lawyers should be well respected and recognized as noble. He stressed that only a solid Bar- Bench relationship will guarantee such. He called on the Committee to look into the issue of dress code by lawyers so as to keep the flag of their profession flying in terms of nobility.
Elder J. J Igbabon, Professor Kenen Emmanuel and Titus Hyundu Esq Said the issues of professional Ethics, Etiquette and Discipline have continued to call for a reorientation.
Theophilus Igba Esq the 3rd Vice President NBA, enjoined members of NBA to encourage and support the activities of the Branch. He stressed the need for members to always attend NBA meetings and contribute their quota for the growth of the Association.
In his vote of thanks, NBA Secretary Fidelis Mnyim Esq lauded the efforts of everyone for making the Advisory Committee meeting a success.
