Bishop Meets Mbaivur Women Over Ikpayongo Crisis

Most Reverend Wilfred Anagbe, Catholic Bishop of Makurdi Diocese addressing Mbaivur Women Progressive Association
Peace, hope, reconciliation and development. These are the key words of the visit made by Bishop Wilfred Anagbe to Mbaivur Women Progressive Association on October 26, 2020, as he continued his campaign for the return of lasting peace through genuine reconciliation between the people of Mbasombo and Mbaivur Communities who are at each other’s throats over land.
Violent clashes have subsided but the bishop has insisted that lasting peace must come through roundtable dialogue, which is a reliable pathway to forgiveness and reconciliation.
Echoing Pope Francis words of peace, Bishop Anagbe noted that “everything is lost with war and everything is gained with peace”, emphasizing that to make reconciliation possible, it is necessary to overcome times of division and violence to give “peace and development chance in our community.”
While thanking Mbaivur Women for honouring his invitation for the meeting which was held at St. Wilfred’s Church, Hege, the bishop expressed hope that their inclusion in the peace building process would yield fruits of reconciliation and peace between the two sister communities.
The President of Mbaivur Women Progressive Association, Mrs. Veronica Gile promised to support the bishop’s peace initiative with their whole hearts for the end of the crisis and the sufferings it has brought upon people of the two communities.
