DG, NYSC SEEKS IMPROVED INCENTIVES FOR CORPS MEMBERS

The Director General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Brig. Gen. Ibrahim Shuaibu, has called on employers of labour to improve incentives for Corps members.
The DG said this at the 2021 NYSC/Corps Employers Workshop held on the 18th of November, at the Government Model Secondary School, Makurdi, Benue State. With the theme: “Optimizing the NYSC /Corps Members Partnership For Development in the Context of the New Normal,” the DG noted that the objective of the workshop was to exchange ideas on improving NYSC operations, through the provision of enabling environment for Corps members to render qualitative, effective and efficient services.
The DG’s keynote address was delivered by Mr. Abe Dankaro Ashumate, Coordinator, NYSC, Benue state. He tasked the participants to come up with strategies for promoting effective feedback mechanism from key stakeholders on the strengths, weaknesses and potentials of the scheme. The statement also urged the stakeholders to proffer possible ways of invigorating the operations of the scheme nationwide.
Two other papers were presented during the business section on the topics: “Role of Stakeholders in the Challenges of Corps Administration, Under-utilisation and Evasions of Service” and, “Integration of Corps members with host communities for effective service delivery,” by Dr Jackson O. Ode of the Department of Science and Mathematics Education, Benue State Ministry of Education, and Mr Atimbir Shamaange, Principal, Government Model Secondary School, Makurdi, respectively.
Present at the event were the representative of the Chairman, Makurdi Local Government, Mr. Jacob Gbande; Assistant Director, Corps Monitoring and Inspection, Mr Ajima Jacob and Assistant Directors, Human Resource Management, and SAED, Mr Teidu Jacob and Mr Adi David K.
Major stakeholders and Corps employers drawn from about 50 organisations across Makurdi zone attended the workshop.
