NIGERIA, FIRST IN AFRICA, SECOND IN THE WORLD BEHIND FINLAND TO ADOPT THE NATIONAL ACTION PLAN UNSCR 2250 ON YOUTH, PEACE AND SECURITY

Report monitored on bbforpeace.org says Nigeria has become the first country in Africa and second in the world behind Finland to adopt a National Action Plan (NAP) on the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security (YPS).

The United Nations Council had on 9th December, 2015 adopted resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security. The stakeholders in Nigeria at different levels including the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development (FMYSD), the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) and the Coalition on Youth, Peace and Security has collaborated with relevant stakeholders to develop a National Action Plan on Youth Peace and Security, to domesticate the five pillars of UNSCR 2250 in Nigeria. This process involves engaging stakeholders through a national youth forum; organising in-person consultations in zonal workshops, community level focused group discussions and national conferences; online consultations and meetings; national validation meetings. Building Blocks for Peace Foundation played vital roles in the entire process.
