Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has described former Chief Judge of the State, Justice Iorhemen Hwande who died three days ago as one who impacted positively not only to his family but the entire society.

Governor Ortom who spoke Monday, January 24th, 2022 at the Makurdi residence of the deceased during a condolence visit on the family said the deceased contributed in making the Benue State Judiciary udiciary one of the best in Nigeria according to information made available to newsmen by his Media Aide Jimin Geoffrey.

The Governor described death as a mystery and something that is very difficult to get used to, stressing that only God gives and takes life whenever He wills.

The Governor further commended the deceased for remaining committed to the service of God after retirement and his active involvement in evangelism, saying he had prepared himself for eternity, pointing out that he served and retired unblemished.

The Governor while praying God to grant the deceased eternal rest and the bereaved family the fortitude to bear the loss, also condoled the family of Professor Ignatius Ayua on the sudden passage of their father in the early hours of today in Abuja.

A relation of the late Chief Judge, Dr Terungwa Azende told the Governor and his entourage that the deceased died last Saturday, three days after he took ill, pointing out that he died from some medical complications.

First son of the deceased, Mr Terhemba Hwande said the family is appreciative of the condolence visit by the Governor and his entourage, saying the demise of their father had proven to the family that he was really loved by many.

On the entourage of the Governor were the state Deputy Governor, Engineer Benson Abounu, Chief Judge of the state, Justice Aondover Kakaan, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr Tivlumun Nyitse.

Others were Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the state, Barrister Michael Gusa, Judges and other staff of the judiciary as well as other top government functionaries.

Earlier, on January 23 Lawyers under the umbrella of the Nigerian Bar Associan (NBA) Makurdi Branch led by Justin Gbagir leading members of the Bar including Secretary F. B Mnyim, Esq, the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Michael Gusa, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Bernard Hom,Former 3rd National Vice President, Theophilus Igba, President of Ayatutu Lawyers Forum Worldwide Oscar Aorabee, Former NBA Past Chairmen, D. U Dzuanah, Mike Assoh, and other Senior Lawyers including Timothy Dim, Esq, Stephen Idikwu, Esq to the residence of the former Benue state Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Iorhemen Hwande, OFR to commiserate with the entire family.

Justin Ggbagir while consoling the entire late Justice Huwande said ;”his paternal admonishments to the Bar was timely in fostering cohesion amongst members, and in shaping the relationship between the Bar and the Bench. The late erudite Justice, had a robust relationship with the NBA before he exited office in 2017. His demise indeed will be greatly missed.

“He has a deep spiritual disposition, and that culminated in him ensuring that the chapel at the High Court is built, and equipped.

“It is unfortunate that we are here singing a dirge in his memory, we pray that God to grants him the enternal rest he deserves.”

Other NBA Exco who accompanied the NBA Chairman were the Publicity Secretary Ushahemba Dekaa, the Treasurer Mrs. Aver Shima, Esq as well as the Welfare Chairperson Mrs Marietta Addingi, Esq.
