“Women Peace Builders to Get $5 million Boost” _ Search For Common Ground

US Department of State, Secretary’s office for Global Women Issues,  is set to disburse 5 million dollars for a period of 5 years, to international civil society organizations, involved in the  advancement of local women participation in influencing and driving peace efforts globally.

This global peace donation was made known in a recent online press release, by the Search For Common Ground_ an international organization devoted to global peace building, since 1982.

The 5 years peace Program, titled “Supporting Her Empowerment: Women Inclusion for New Security (She Wins) was birthed at the 2021 Presidents Leadership Summit for Democracy, hosted by the governments of United States and Sweden; aimed at exhibiting pivotal roles that women’s Civic and political leadership participation, play in advancing global  peace and democracy.

And to strategize on how gender identity stakeholders, can tackle barriers to gender equality and women empowerment.

Chief Executive Officer of Search for Common Ground, Shamil Idriss applauds the initiative, saying, “peace agreement are 35% more likely to last for 15+ years, when women participate.”

He also said that the initiative will assist the countries affected by social violence to close gender gaps, which will ensure lower level of mortality, stronger social safety nets and a healthier and just society.

Search’s Director of Global Affairs  and Partnerships, Sharmila Shewprased said, “Peace efforts that ignore the influence and power of half of the society are unlikely to succeed.” And went further to reveal that the organization is working with the University of San Diego’s Kroc Institute for peace, and Justice’s Women Waging Peace Network, to sustain women leadership, peace and security in the five Nations (Yemen, Uzbekistan, Cameroon, Central African Republic and Cong) that are the focus of the program.
