Burglary Incident At Makurdi High Court Premises.
By Prosper Okoye –
The Court 5 and Court 6 Judges’ offices of the Makurdi High courts, were discovered on the morning hours of Monday, 21,Feb. to have been burgled.
A staff of the court, Andrew Ikyu, revealed that some electronics were stolen by the unidentified burglar(s).
“When we came this morning we discovered that the burglary protections in the offices were destroyed, and two televisions and a computer were missing.” Ikyu said.
The High court Chief Registrar, Felicia Ikyegh, confirmed the incident, but refused to speak further about it. According to her: “I can not grant an interview, because the Chief Justice have to give his permission before a court matter is disclosed to the press.”
Former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association Makurdi Branch, Job Ishember, who was in the court, described the situation as “unfortunate and an affront to the administration of Justice in Benue state.”
He continued: “if the sanctuary of the law court can not be spared by ravaging hoodlums, then it shows that the security system in place is not adequate.”
Barr. Ishember further called on the police and the government to beef-up security in courts and other public offices to forestall such “ugly incident” from future occurrence.
When contacted through a telephone call, the police Public Relations Officer, Cathrine Anene, said she is not aware of the burglary incident.
