The Och’Idoma Appreciates the Center for Humanitarian Dialogue as peace returned to Agatu.

The Och’Idoma, Agaba Idu, HRM Elaigwu Odogbo John, appreciated and praises the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue and partners for the success of the median project in Benue state and the signing of Agatu Natural Resources Peace agreement ceremony, which took place on the 22nd February 2022.

The Och’Idoma stated that,”this epoch project that climaxed in a time as this, signals that peace has returned to Idoma land and indeed Benue state.

The people of Egba and Ologba Agatu Local Government Area of Benue state have been involved in what seemed like an unresolvable crisis for over fifty years.The crisis which revolved around ownership of God given natural resources within and around these communities that has claimed so many lives in the time past was finally resolved.

The process began on the 17th of November 2021, with the two parties signing a Statement of

Affirmation, committing to the facilitated dialogue process culminated into the epoch Peace Agreement, leading to the cessation of hostilities, the return of displaced persons, guaranteeing of free movement of the people of Agatu, as well as establishment of Agatu Peace Committee.

HRM, mentioned that,”the date of the event, which was 22nd February 2022, would be marked in the annals of Agatu history, as a day the heavenly portals opened for hostility to leave our land as peace returns eternally”.
