BIRS CHAIRMAN ASSURES STAFF OF COMMITMENT TO SECURITY MEASURES AT THEIR DUTY POST

The Executive Chairman, Benue State Internal Revenue Service, BIRS, Chief (Mrs) Mimi Adzape-Orubibi has assured staff of the service working at gazetted revenue inspection points and monitoring units across the state of her commitment to putting measures in place to enhance their security while at the duty post.

The Chairman stated this during a visit to the North-Bank inspection point, Makurdi where suspected men of the Nigeria Army recently attacked and abducted a staff on duty in what has become a reoccurrence.

The Revenue Boss who had earlier met with General Officer commanding 72 Special Forces Battalion, Lt. Col. M.A Yusuf over the attacks said plans are on to install cameras and body worn cameras at the various inspection points that will keep record of activities at such points, and also make investigations easier when such dastardly acts occurs.

Mrs. Mimi Orubibi said also that, the service shall soon commence the construction of buildings that will be painted with BIRS colours across the inspection points to serve as workplace accommodation for the staff, and also mount new signposts at the designated inspection points.

While charging the staff to remain committed to their duties and shun sharp practices that affects the revenue profile of the state negatively, the Chairman expressed displeasure over the continuous misconduct and incessant attacks by men of the Nigerian Army on her staff describing it as barbaric.
Earlier, the General officer Commanding 72 Special Forces Battalion, Lt. Col. M.A Yusuf had assured the Chairman that under his watch there is zero tolerance for such acts of misconduct by his men. He appreciated the Chairman and Governor Samuel Ortom for prevailing on the people not to protest following the unfortunate incidents. The commander said though he’s been posted newly to the command he will investigate properly into the alleged cases.

Lt. Col. Yusuf assured the chairman of his readiness to work closely with her to forestall such acts from happening as well relate cordially with the host community.
