OCHANYA OGBANJE: COURT TO DELIVER JUDGMENT APRIL 13TH

April 13th, 2022 has been set for final judgment in the case of deceased 13-year-old girl, Elizabeth Ochanya Ogbanje, who died in 2018 of complications arising from sustained rape allegedly by her guardian, Mr. Andy Ogbuja, and his son, Victor Ogbuja.

The case which attracted both national and international attention has continued for nearly 4 years and civil society groups and concerned individuals that have kept a close watch on the case have lamented the delay in dispensing justice and bring a closure to the case.

While one of the accused, Andy had been on remand from where he had been attending the hearing of the case but the other accused, Victor has been at large.

In a related development, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has been prosecuting the wife and mother of both accused persons, Mrs. Felicia Ogbuja, for negligence in protecting the deceased victim when she allegedly knew both her husband and son had allegedly been taking turns to serially rape under-aged Ochanya which eventually led to health complications that resulted in her death.

Meanwhile, Ochanya Ogbanje’s caregiver, Evang. Enuwa Efada Soo, who catered for her until the wee hours of her life, has demanded for justice to be done and called on Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), the international community and the media to remain vigilant over the case and come out enmasse on the appointed judgment day April 13th, 2022.
