Operation Zenda Kills 4 Bandits, recovers Ammunition in Ukum LGA, Benue State

Men of Operation Zenda Special tactical team, deployed to Ukum Local Government Area of Benue state, has today killed 4 suspected armed bandits and recovered some ammunition from them.

“Sequel to activities of bandits in Sankara area (a collective name for Ukum, Kastinala and Logo Local Government areas of Benue state), Series of operations have been carried out in the area with successes recorded in form of recovery of firearms, ammunition and other dangerous weapons, arrest of suspects and dislodgement of criminal hideouts.

“As part of efforts to maintain peace in the area, police officers among other security agents are deployed to the area to ensure peace. On 26/3/2022 at about 0130hrs while men of Operation Zenda special tactical team were at their observation point in Ukum Local Government Area, information was received that armed bandits numbering about twenty (20) were on their way to attack unsuspecting members of Zakibiam Community. The team swung into action and engaged these bandits in a gun duel. Consequently, some of the hoodlums were hit by bullets and four (4)were captured while the other gang members sustained gunshot injuries but escaped to a nearby forest. The captured bandits have been confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital and corpses deposited at BSU Teaching Hospital Morgue while efforts are on top gear to arrest the suspects at large.

“Items recovered from them include; one (1) AK-47 rifle, one (1) G3 rifle, one locally made revolver pistol, seventy five (75) rounds of 6.72x39mm live ammunition, 5 rounds of 9mm live ammunition, AK-47 magazines, three G3 magazines, and fifty nine (59) rounds of 7.62x49mm live ammunition. These make a total of three rifles, five magazines and 139 live ammunition.

“The Commissioner of Police, Benue state command, CP. Wale Abass while addressing the press, assured them of continuous commitment to rid Sankara area of bandits.”
