Who killed Sixtus?: Coroner Adjourns Hearing To 6th Apiril

The Coroner Inquest into the circumstances under which late Terfa Sixtus Akure died, has been adjourned by the presiding coroner, to the 6th of April 2022, for continuation of hearing.

It was reported that suspected military personnel from the 72 Special Forces Battalion, Nigerian Army, on 16th January, 2022, allegedly abducted and murdered Mr. Sixtus Akure, a Senior Inspector of Taxes with the Benue State Internal Revenue Service, BIRS.

At the resumed hearing yesterday, held at the Markurdi Chief Magistrate court, Counsel to BIRS, Mike Utsaha, applied for an adjournment, to enable four more witnesses to give their testimonies to the Coroner.

According Barr. Utsaha: “the Chief Medical Director, Benue State University teaching hospital, Makurdi, and the Chief Security adviser to the Governor of Benue State, Col. Paul Hemba, Rtd, would testify in an open court. While two other unidentified witnesses testimonies, will be taken off camera, for security reasons.”

The Coroner, Vincent Kor, Esq. adjourned the inquest to the 6th April 2022, for continuation of hearing.

At the last hearing held on the 22nd of March 2022, the Benue state Commissioner of Police, Tajudeen Abass, and eight other BIRS Staff testified before the coroner, of the army involvement in the death of late Mr. Terfa Sixtus Akure.

Mr. Akure was abducted from his duty post at about 11pm on Saturday, 16th Jan. 2022, at a gazetted BIRS Inspection point located close to the ‘C’ Dvision police station, in the North Bank area of Makurdi town.

The remains of Akure was later discovered by the roadside on Sunday, 17 January, 2022 at Yagba Community, close to Aper Aku Housing Estate, North bank, Makurdi.
