Zone C Should Be Made Benue State Governor Come 2023 _ BRM
By Prosper Okoye –
The Socio-political group, Benue Rebirth Movement (BRM), has demanded that gubernatorial aspirants from the Benue South Senatorial Zone (Zone C), should be given the opportunity to emerge Benue state Governor, in 2023 governorship election.
According to the movement Convener, RTD AVM, Monday Morgan, while speaking at the “Maga Rally 2022,” held at IBB Square, Makurdi: the objective of the movement was not just to get governorship position for Zone C, but to address all forms of social injustice in the state.
“When one does a comparative research of Benue state and other northern states, one would discover that there is something wrong with the state; because Democracy that is centered on dominancy has not produce the best results in any part of the world.”
He further called on political elites to put an end to the long years of one sided governance in the state.
Speaking at the event, the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, said the agitation of Zone C Is Just course.
“As a strong believer of Justice, fairness, and equity, no inhabitant of the state should be excluded from the affairs of the state.”
Governor Ortom who was represented by his Deputy, Engr. Benson Abounu, urged the zone to continue with their consultation for the governorship position, as only a man can not make someone a governor in the state.
Chairman planning committee, and Chairman Obadibo local government Council, Prince Samuel Onuh Odoh, said “Benue State is the only state in Nigeria that governorship position is not rotated among Senatorial zones.”
He pleaded that Benue people from Zone A and B, should have confidence in their brothers from Zone C, as His Royal Majesty Agabaidu, Dr Elias Ikoyi Obeka had always pleaded before he went on a hunting expedition.
“We are not asking for the governorship position, so as to take away your birth right, we are asking for just a term to exhibit our leadership ability,” Prince Odoh added.
Speaking, immediate past Deputy Governor of Benue state, Stephen Lawani noted that: “after 46 years, it is insane if people should not think it right, for Zone C to produce the next governor of the state.”
He stated that there are fears, but, “if we are given a chance, we will surprise everyone, with the quality of leadership that exist in Benue South.”
Professor Ode Ojowu, while presenting his Goodwill message, disclosed that political stakeholders from Zone C have collectively agreed that: “the next governor should come from the Idoma nation; and the senator representing Zone C, shall be giving to the Igede people.”
According to him this “new spirit of accommodation” would give everyone a sense of belonging.
A sensitization road walk was held earlier, beginning from the Wurukum round about, and ended at the Benue State government house Makurdi.
