A cross section of Benue People have blamed grassroots underdevelopment on the local government administration. They say the third tier of government which should be a priority is neglected and attention shifted to the federal government. According to a political Scientist, Enyi Ochapa, the newly inaugurated chairmen in Benue State must change the narrative.

On his part, an agricultural consultant, Shenge, says if priority is given to the third tier, there would be improvement in the standard of living among the rural dwellers. He says the era where chairmen abandon the people and focus on their principals should be phased out.

Makurdi based human rights lawyer, Hembafan Utange says the Benue people have done well by electing 9 women as council bosses in the state. She admonishes the women to use the opportunity to demonstrate competence for them and the woman folk.

Recall that Benue governor, Samuel Ortom on 29th June inaugurated 23 chairmen, with a charge for them to wake up to their responsibilities. With local government autonomy, it is expected that there will be no more excuses for failure, at the third tier of government.
