A cross section of Makurdi residents say services rendered by the Point of Sale operators, in conjunction with commercial banks have come to ease financial transactions among Nigerians.
Despite the ease, they also want the operators to do more to address some challenges encountered by subscribers.
With the coming of the point of sale option popularly known as POS, the need to travel distances to either deposit money, transfer to a third party or even withdraw has been solved as the operators are found im every corner of any neighborhood. This position was submitted by
Orafa Shedrack, Chairman, Association of Mobile Money Operators, Benue State Chapter and Paul Ugah, a Makurdi based journalist. They say the services have brought banking closer to the people.
According to Mrs. Scholastica Hir, also a journalist, easy and accessible as the services of POS are, many have complained of some challenges they encounter while using the service. There have been cases of customers being debited without a concurrent credit on the operators account and vice versa. This and more they say should be improved.
Hir says there has been series of issues bothering on transactions she has encountered overtime. Ugah on his part also says certain people are using the platform to defraud customers.
While the operators acknowledge some of the challenges encountered in their operations, they however crave cooperation from the consumers as most cases can only be resolved by issuing banks while others are dependent on the strength of the services provided by telecommunications companies.
Orafa says, the subscribers should cooperate with the operators for financial security. He submitted that this is word best practice that should be accepted by all.
The introduction of POS is an innovation that has come to stay, and with the rise in daily transactions especially since banks and ATM are located in most areas, the POS has indeed become a part of our everyday living.
