The flood crisis in some part of the world including Nigeria this season has come with tales of horror as recounted by victims in Makurdi, Benue State.

The water has taken over households and school premises. Bricklayers and fishermen are also kicked out of business till further notice.

When The Transmitter visited the scene, the victims said they were notified of flooding this year, but could not relocate for different reasons.

Theresa Moses is one of the victims. She said they slept on that incidence night, only to wake up on water. The needs of her households including food and cloths are washed away.

As at the time of this report, the water level was receding, the victims said there were cases of snakes roaming in the area.

This is worrisome to the victims who have lost their livelihoods including food and water and that require adequate health attention.

The contaminated water is what the victims use for their daily needs. This water is polluted by different chemicals including refuse dumps, latrines and other unhygienic substances.

The victims, from what The Transmitter gathered are not planning to relocate permanently to higher grounds, they are waiting for the water to recede so they can gather the pieces of their lives and move on.

The flood has displaced over a hundred thousand persons in Benue State, in 11 local government areas, with over 12 thousands households and scores of deaths according to statistics retrieved from the State Emergency Management Agency.

Makurdi, the state capital, because of its proximity to River Benue is worse hit by the flood this year, as was the case in 2012.
