NATIONAL IDENTITY: Nigerians Urged To Get NIN To Brighten Prospects
Jimmie Adzande Makurdi
Nigerians are coming to terms with the reality that every citizen must possess the National Identification Number- NIN.
When the Transmitter Media visited the National Identity Management Office in Makurdi Tuesday, 24th January 2023, the environment was tensed up with people of different demographics filing up in waiting.
An official of the office who preferred not to be named, said every Nigerian irrespective of age is required to register for the National Identification Number.
A Makurdi resident, Kelvin and Alake Gabriel, a student of Benue State University said those who have not registered and those who have errors on their registration have to contend with challenges of not having the important number. One of the challenges, they said is lack of access to certain public services.
Many of these residents who were waiting for the staff of the NIMC are living with these realities.
Of particular note at the office were Grace Okpara a graduating student of Anglican secondary school and Mnyiwe Mary of Government Day secondary school all in Makurdi. They are undergoing JAMB registration in which NIN is a major requirement.
The teenagers in their school uniforms are not at school in these early hours, because they need to present their NIN at the JAMB office.
