First Female Makurdi NBA Chair Seeks End to Insecurity in Nigeria

The Chairman, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Makurdi Branch, Barr. Maimuna Maigida Ikwulono has called on the security agencies to synergise and end security infractions in parts of Nigeria, especially in Benue State.

In a chat with the press, on the occasion of her administration’s one year anniversary in office, the first female chairperson of the branch said the spread of insecurity has affected almost everyone living in Benue State, one way or the other. She expressed confidence in the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led Federal government and the Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia led state government, to address some of the imminent social crises rocking the country and state.

The Bar chair also announced a new professional fee regime for lawyers in the branch, even as she tasked lawyers on professionalism in discharging their duties. She further listed some achievements to include progress report on the Bar Foyer, website development for the branch, refurbishment of the branch vehicle as well as intervention in cases of human rights violations in the state.

In his presentation, the branch Secretary, Joseph Gbagyo Esq, x-rayed some of the information contained on the website which is still undergoing development. The members of the Bar were impressed with the developments recorded thus far.

Mrs. Ikwulono said she has “enjoined a cordial working relationship with her predecessors” who constitute the college of former chairmen of the branch, the learned silks, senior colleagues and all members within the year under review.

Earlier on, representative of the College of former chairmen, Mike Assoh Esq, passed a vote of confidence on the Ikwulono led Executive Council of the Bar. He also pledged more support for the success of the EXCO of the learned gentlemen and ladies of the branch.
