Stakeholders on Agricultural Practices Charged Farmers on Organic Farming
Farmers, Officials of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, the media and security agencies gathered in Makurdi Thursday at the instance of Agrilife Bio-Solutions for a “One Day Sensitization on Eco-Friendly Agriculture and NAGSS Programme of Federal Government of Nigeria.”
The resource person and Agrilife Public Sector Consultant, Mr. Dav Raphael gave a moving lecture on organic farm inputs as well as benefits to the eco system. He mentioned some of the health implications of using inorganic fertilisers and the realities of climate change. He said Agrilife Bio-Solution Nigeria has out of thorough research provided solutions through its inorganic products as he lectured the listening audience.
Earlier, a representative of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, a Fertiliser Inspector, Mr. Ali Felix highlighted some of the practical steps put in place by the government to fight sharp practices occasioned in Agric sector. He said there is a law in place that addresses these crimes, the problem is that the public is unaware of such laws. He mentioned that the Ministry can be reached through designated phone lines to report issues of fake farm inputs.
Reacting, Chairman, All Farmers Association of Nigeria AFAN, Benue State Chapter, Aondogu Saaku admonished farmers to patronise the right vendors for farm inputs. He said inorganic farm inputs have direct health consequences on the consumers like hypertension and stomach ulcers.
On her part, Mrs. Veronica Guma, State Coordinator-
Small Scale Women Farmers Organization of Nigerian (SWOFON) Benue State said, women must do more in the area of agricultural practices in the state. She said reality has shown that with mass participation of women in this all important sector, the economy of the state and country will get better.
There was question and answer session which threw more light on the scope of the workshop.
Highlight of the day was a display of inorganic farm inputs by Agrilife Bio-Solution Nigeria, reknowned brand for original and effective farm inputs in Nigeria.
