Benue People Applaud Governor Alia As He Bans Illegal Levies In The State

Residents of Benue State, especially developers are beginning to take in good news as illegal levies have been ordered to standout forthwith in the state. According to the executive order, matching ground, extortion from traders, illegal collection of money from motorists and contractors that are working in Benue State.

However, the governor has swung into action as he directed his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on youth organization and levies Mr. Terver Gbenda, to begin the process of constituting a Tasks-force committee to checkmate activities of the illegal levies across the 23 local government area of Benue State.

On his part, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) Gbenda said about 2000 volunteer youths across the 23 local governments will be selected in the first batch and only youth with proven integrity and unquestionable character will be selected.

The Senior Special Assistant is calling on interested youth of the State, individual and organization who are willing to support the state governor in curbing/eradicating illegality and enhancing development of Benue State to come to the office of the Senior Special Assistant of youth mobilization and illegal levies at Aper-Aku Stadium, beside basketball court, Makurdi and apply.

Mr. Godwin Omale  welcomed the development and thank the governor who listen to the cry of the people. He stated that when he came to Makurdi in 2013 and bought a plot of land, the youth in the community asked him to pay N200,000 before he started building on the land.

Mr. Omale said when he reported the matter to the police, he was told that is how it is done in Benue State.

Mrs. Monica Terwase a petty trader in Wurukum market also decry the high level of illegal taxes they paid in the market without issuing them receipt from different groups, claiming to be government tax collectors. She also thanked the Governor for the development.

Suleiman Adamu, a truck driver also decried the high level of exuberant taxes paid in Benue State on highways. He appreciated the Governor for coming to their rescue to eliminate illegal taxes and check-points in Benue state.With this developments, there are hopes illegal levies in the form of matching ground, illegal check-points, illegal market receipt, illegal mining, illegal deforestation, illegal extortion of motor parks and vandalisation of government properties such as Raillines, pipelines will end in the Food Basket State.
