Jubilation As Governor Alia take Steps to Prevent Pending Flood Disaster In Makurdi

Burdened with the consequences of heavy rains on his people in the capital city, Makurdi, His Excellency the workaholic and tireless governor, took a trip around the city to note the areas that must be fixed urgently before the total return of rains.

The Governor said he noticed the rot and the damage, the carelessness of our past leaders have caused which has led to consistent floods in the city and I kept asking myself what happened to the ecological funds?

Hundreds of millions were released for the past 16 years in the name of ecological funds under the watch of the past administrations and our cities are still experiencing very high floods, submerging houses, overrunning roads and destroying  crops. A situation, I believe could be avoided had the leaders used the funds properly.

The Governor said, “don’t get me wrong, there were some attempts by some administrations but what one sees on ground does not show commitment to end flooding or at least bring it down to the barest minimum in the state, what one sees is a means to justify the diversion and embezzlement of such funds. Imagine a truck of flow from Achusa all the way to the Benue links park. A proper construction would have saved the situation but no, some parts were done halfway then others were left in between what kind of work is that?

His Excellency, Mr, talk and do has assured the people of Benue state, to look forward to a transformation (roads and drainage) that will put an end to the consistent floods that have plagued the state, from which others were unfortunately making money.

There are natural disasters that are beyond human control but that which lies within the control of man, will be taken care by this administration.

Mrs. Vivian Kwagker a trader in Wurukum market Makurdi, expressed the happiness about the step taken by the governor to end flooding in Wurukum market. She said flooding destroys  goods every year in the market since the perennial floods began.

Also Mr. Ebuka Obinna a businessman express happiness about the step taken by the governor to control the yearly occurrence of flood in the market. He said he has lost goods worth millions as a result of flood.

Dr. fidelis Madaki, a lecturer in the Urban and Estate Management, Federal Polytechnic Kaduna applauded the governor, but stressed that people should stop building on the water channels and they should cultivate the habits of clearing the drainage regularly to avoid blockage.
