
BSU College of Health Sciences Gets First Female Provost
Prof. Andrea Avershima Ornguze has been appointed the 4th substantive Provost of College of Health Sciences, Benue State University, Makurdi. Her appointment was announced recently by the Chairman Governing Council of the University.
A reputable Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ornguze has held several administrative and academic positions including Head of Clinic Services at the Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi. She was a personal Physician to Governor Moses O. Adasu of blessed memory. Until her appointment, Prof. Ornguze was the acting Head of Department Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the College of Health Sciences, Benue State University, Makurdi.
She has a string of fellowships and honours to her credit including, but not excluded to fellow of West African College of Surgeons, (FWACS), fellow of the Medical College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (FMCOG), FICS, MBA, CPPA, CPAAT. She has published extensively in academic journals across the globe and has been on the editorial team of Benue Journal of Medicine.
In a congratulatory message, on behalf of the National President and the Executive Council of the Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Prof. Rosemary Ogu stated that this remarkable achievement reflects Ornguze’s hard work and excellence in the medical and academic fields. According to her “It is a testament to your leadership and vision, which will continue to inspire and shape the future of medical education and healthcare in Nigeria.”
