ASUU Taraba State University Suspends Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University (TSU) Branch has announced the suspension of the ongoing strike which began on the 5th of December, 2024 mid-way into the second semester examination. The Union has directed its members to resume academic activities immediately.

It will be recalled that the unresolved issues which necessitated the strike action last December included:  Lack of Pension Scheme; Non-payment of Salary Backlog; Failure to Constitute a Governing Council; Non-payment of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA); Exclusion from Minimum Wage Implementation and Lack of adequate Funding as Enshrined by the Law Establishing the University.

A statement issued by the spokesperson of the union on Saturday 18th of January, 2025 stated that details of the agreement reached between the Taraba State Government and the University will be provided in due course. The statement also requested students and staff to report to campus for normal academic activities.

Meanwhile, in response to suspension of the strike by ASUU, TSU Branch on the 18th January, 2025, and noting the on-going strike of SSANU/NASU, the university management at its meeting held on 18th January, 2025, has rescheduled the continuation of second semester examination for 2023/2024 academic session to 27th January, 2025.
