
JUSTICE IKPAMBESE CHARGES RECONSTITUTED LG APPEAL TRIBUNAL TO DO ITS JOB DELIGENTLY WITHOUT PLEASING ANYBODY
A fast-spreading relief hit Benue Monday, 7th April, 2025 as the Chief Judge of the State, Honorable Justice Maurice Ahemba Ikpambese swore-in chairman and two members of the reconstituted Local Government Election Appeal Tribunal in the state. Since the on set of the appeals, analysts who predicted the shortness of time expected the Chief Judge to be proactive and they are not disappointed.
The reconstituted Appeal Panel sworn-in included Justice Dennis Igyuse as chairman, Justice Michael Ugar and Justice Maimuna Ikwulono as members. The universal sentiment circulating among many who had waited for the appeal panel with bated-breath is that the members are experienced people.
Performing the ceremony at the Chief Judge’s Conference Hall, High Court of Justice Headquarters, Makurdi, Justice Ikpambese charged them to discharge their duties to the best of their abilities.
He noted that as the apex court of the election, its members should not shy from fear, but carry out their assignment without pleasing anybody but God and their conscience.
A statement made available to The Transmitter by th Protocol Officer, High Court of Justice, David Terna Jooli reveals Justice Ikpambese statement that he had been careful in selecting judges to handle such a difficult task, stressing that nobody influenced him in carrying out such responsibility and that his selection was based on the integrity of the trio.
The number one adjudicator in the state noted that the constitution of the Local Government Election Tribunal was his initiative as one of his statutory functions as the Chief Judge to ensure that justice was served to aggrieved parties in the election.
Responding on behalf of himself and the two members, the chairman of the panel, Justice Igyuse thanked God for selecting them amongst many and pledged that they would discharge their duties honestly and to the best of their abilities as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He prayed God to grant them wisdom and strength to carry out the task creditably.
The appeal panel is mandated to look into appeal cases that may arise from the Local Government Election Petition Tribunal currently on-going.
