MKI, GOLOZO’S ASSISTANT, BOWS
By Tahav Agerzua
Twenty five years after Augustine Tarker Golozo passed in 2000, his long standing assistant, Agure Mki, also took a bow yesterday, aged close to 100 years.
Mki transited in the evening of August 30, 2025 at his home in Mbatyav, Gboko local government area of Benue.
His children, Orya and Imojime Agure informed me through separate phone calls.
They said the family was yet to fix a date for the funeral and that his body has been deposited at a health facility in Akpagher.
Golozo and Mki forged a remarkable pair that dominated Tiv traditional oral poetry for several decades.
To this very day the relevance of their songs continues to resonate across the land.
There was no dispute that Golozo was rated number one in all ramifications during his time and Mki had a big share in that glory.
With the curtains now drawn over these great men, both indigenes of Mbatyav, their positive impact on oral folklore and music will linger for long.
