MKI, GOLOZO’S ASSISTANT, BOWS ‎

By Tahav Agerzua

‎Twenty five years after Augustine Tarker Golozo passed in 2000, his long standing assistant, Agure Mki, also took a bow yesterday, aged close to 100 years.

‎Mki transited in the evening of August 30, 2025 at his home in Mbatyav, Gboko local government area of Benue.

‎His children, Orya and Imojime Agure informed me through separate phone calls.

‎They said the family was yet to fix a date for the funeral and that his body has been deposited at a health facility in Akpagher.

‎Golozo and Mki forged a remarkable pair that dominated Tiv traditional oral poetry for several decades.

‎To this very day the relevance of their songs continues to resonate across the land.

‎There was no dispute that Golozo was rated number one in all ramifications during his time and Mki had a big share in that glory.

‎With the curtains now drawn over these great men, both indigenes of Mbatyav, their positive impact on oral folklore and music will linger for long.
