According to the Executive Director HOHF Dorothy Akende, the activity became necessary considering the hardship endured by children at the camps as well as deprivation of full participation in activities that accompany children’s day celebration.

Distribution of food items, relief materials and sports equipment to about 150 children as well as barbing, washing and treatment of 70 children’s hair within the camp formed an integral part of the activity. Some parents who had their children attended to could not hold back their joy while expressing themselves to our correspondent.

For Blessing Dogo, she is   happy with HOHF for finding their children worthy of this opportunity. “we no get plan for Children’s day before, but as una come so, we see say our pikin dey happy make God bless una.”

Marthins Ibuan said “Children’s Day is a happy day for every child. During my time, we had a lot of activities like dance and March parades which I participated fully but due to internal displacement our children cannot enjoy that. While we are still here, I will appeal the government organizes a celebration even for the displaced children. But most importantly the 3 years I have spent here are not funny so, efforts should   be made by government to take us out of the camp please.”

Queen Kumtu on her part was unhappy with the state of the children’s hair she said, “almost all our children in the camp have one hair damage issue or the other this is because of the cockroaches here that bite children and the fact that many use razor to barb.”

Torkwase Zaayem, Paulina Ioraver, Joy Orya, Martha Ordoo, Depinen Orshio and other mothers while appreciating the opportunity lamented the hardship endured at the camp.
