Treat illegal Tax Collectors as Armed Robbers – Gov. Ortom

The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has warned the people mounting illegal tax points in the state, to desist from the act, as they shall be treated as armed robbers, when caught.

Ortom disclosed this on Monday, while giving assent to the amended Benue State Internal Revenue Administration Law, at the Government House Makurdi.

According to him: “Revenue collection in the state has been contracted to consultants. Those who are interested should work with them. Anyone that is caught operating illegally, will be treated like a criminal.”

The Governor lamented the small amount of revenue generated, which he said, has hinder the execution of projects. He enjoined the state tax collectors to work harder to improve the revenue generation, so that the state could meet her obligations.

The governor applauded members of the Benue State House of Assembly, for the speedy passage of the amended act, and assured them of a sustained cordial working relationship.

The Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly, Titus Uba who was represented by the Deputy Speaker, Christopher Adaji at the event, disclosed that the amendments were done after due consultations with critical stakeholders, and relevant provisions of the law.
