Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom
By Jerry Moses –
Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has advised President Mohammadu Buhari to honouably resign for what he term ‘abysmal performance’
He gave the advice Monday at the Benue peoples House, Makurdi, while addressing journalists.
According to him, “Let me be clear: Buhari’s failure as President has led Nigeria to the most corrupt, disunited, disorganized government in the history of our country. This has brought unprecedented economic hardship, chaos, escalated insecurity where lives don’t matter”
He disclosed there has been renewed attacks on Benue Communities by Fulani Terrorists.
“In the last two weeks, more than 20 people have been killed by Fulani terrorists in unprovoked attacks in Guma, Logo and Gwer West, Agatu”
“The Growing number of IDPs in Benue is alarming. As I speak, more than 1.5million people are still living in poor shanties as shelter. No where to go to”
“More than three years after Vice President, Yemi Osinbanjo promised the sum of N10 billion for rehabilitation and reconstruction, nothing has been sent. What has happened to this in regards to the Benue IDP?
“The federal government should act fast before they push the citizenry into taking the risk of protecting themselves from these terrorists”
He accused the Federal Government of nepotism. “The Borno State and the North East have continued to receive tons of relief in cash and materials from the Federal Ministry of humanitarian Services and International donor agencies. Just recently, the Vice President gave marching orders to a committee for the North East. What is the sin of Benue IDPs?
The governor explained that his administration has recorded a lot of achievements, mentioning a few of them.
“Over N1.450billion has been committed to SDG projects across the state. This resulted in the provision of more than 2000 motorised boreholes in various communities in the state”
“We also have partnership in the 120 Mother and Child Hospital that was recently commissioned by the President.
“Construction and furnishing of 42 Primary Health Care Centres in the State, opening of more roads in the state; NASME-Yogbo-Udei Branch Road and alsphalting of already constructed roads among others”
He appealed to Nigerians not to lose faith in governance. “I want to assure Nigerians that the PDP is set to take over power at the centre and also retain power here in Benue.
“The current political and legal victories for the PDP is a clear sign of what Nigerians should expect. (FCT Council Elections and Ebonyi Governorship victory)”
On the rumours that some individuals are warming up to challenge his position as governor based on the recent judgement in Ebonyi State, the maintained that such people are embarking on fruitless exercise.
“Let me clear the foul imagination of those saying I, Samuel Ortom will also lose my seat to the APC to be properly schooled. The mandate I got on the platform of APC expired in 2019. This current tenure is on the platform of the PDP. So those peddling such rumours should be told this in clear terms”, he said.
