BSIEC Assures Readiness TO Conduct 2022 LG Elections

The Benue State Independent Electoral Commission, (BSIEC), has said it is prepared to deliver free, fair and credible local government elections in the state.
This assurance came after the recent declaration by the Benue State All Progressive Congress, (APC), to boycott the 2022 local government polls, over fear of BSIEC inability to conduct free and fair elections.
In a statement on Monday, at Katsina-Ala local government area, Chairman of the Commission, Loko Tersoo Joseph, said: “BSIEC being a creation of Benue State House of Assembly in 2001, and saddled with the core mandate of conducting local government elections; voters in the state, need not be afraid, because the Commission is prepared to conduct a credible, transparent and peaceful elections, despite criticisms.”

Executive Chairman of Katsina-Ala local government, Hon. Alfred Atera, expressed appreciation to the chairman and his team for coming to their area to sensitize them, and update them on the progress of the commission.
“We are not surprised that the Commission under the leadership of Dr. Loko is about to make history, as the first in the state to conduct elections twice since its inception in 2001,” he said.
Hon. Atera noted that the BSIEC Chairman has demonstrated leadership capacity as the Commission’s Chief executive.
He prayed that the almighty God gives him a more exalted office, after he leaves his current job.
BSIEC’s Commissioner-1, Barr. Kertyo Donald, in his brief remarks, appealed to his people to participate peacefully in the forthcoming elections, as they had done in 2020.
Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN), Katsina-Ala Chapter, Rev. Aloho, and the Chairman Nigerian Union of Teachers, (NUT), Comrade Ukuma, pledged their support to the Commission in the conduct of the elections.
Also, the representative of the Katsinala Muslim Community, Alhaji Musa Badamisi, praised the Local government Chairman’s effort to restore peace to the area. He however said the Commission can count on the support of the Muslim community of the area.
