2022 LEGAL YEAR: For Us at the Bar, it is a season of Bold Transition

Makurdi Chair of the Nigeria Bar Association, Maimuna Maigida Ikwulono Esq, has appreciated the judiciary for a tough task in spite of obvious challenges.
The first female chairman of the Makurdi Bar made this statement in an address she delivered at the finale of the 2022 Legal Year, held in Makurdi, on behalf of the other Branches in the state.
She says:
Indeed, it is a celebration for not only the Judiciary of Benue State, but for all legal practitioners and other stakeholders in the Justice Delivery sector. This occasion signals a new legal year as it closes an ended year. It is an occasion that affords opportunity for assessment of the past year and charting out a new course for improved performance” she said.
In the speech made available to the Transmitter Media, the chair, Mrs. Ikwulono also said:
“The Bar has come to terms with the reality that it takes boldness birthed by inner courage to achieve a meaningful transition of our society from what it is politically, economically, socially, etc to the best it can be and we all have a role to play. We must therefore be hold to play in our choices, commitments and determination to see to a better society.”
The chair lamented on the infrastructure deficits and man power in the judiciary and appreciate the judges for holding on in the administration of justice. She called on the state government to “demonstrate sincerity of intention and see to the full implementation of financial Autonomy for the Judiciary.”
The statement further requested that the state government should also look into issues of owed graduity and pensions for retirees, in the judiciary sector.
Mrs. Ikwulono asked the lawyers to live up to their Professional obligations and wishes the Benue State Judiciary, in her words “a rewarding new Legal Year.”
