PROACTIVE STEPS BY NSCDC BENUE STATE COMMAND TO AVERT UROMI INCIDENT IN BENUE
Following credible intelligence that a group of young men numbering about nineteen all from northern extraction suspected to be Hausa/Fulani, are being conveyed through Makurdi at Adoka motor Park, and the palpable tensions being generated among the Locals, the State Commandant immediately ordered a discreet monitoring and evaluation of the group to ascertain their point of departure and the possible destination, with their aims and objectives for embarking on the journey.
Upon this diligent and discreet monitoring, the Command unravelled that they were from Lafiya in Nasarawa state and are not traveling to Adoka town in Otukpo Local Government Area but rather Jato-Aka in Kwande Local Government Area, a local government known to have come under attacks In most recent time with their mission for the Journey not clearly established, though allegedly for the purpose of mining.
Strong intelligence at the disposal of the Command is that the Locals in both Local Government are battle ready to allegedly attack them following the apprehension in the areas as a result of recent killings allegedly being attributed to herders.
To prevent a repeat of the Uromi incident that took place in Edo State, happening here ,the State Commandant have directed immediate protective custody for the youths in order to ascertain their State of departure and purpose for coming to Benue.
Furthermore, she have gone ahead to interface with the proposed mining company they were heading to in JATO-AKA, also an invitation have been extended to the Mining Company for further consultation and profiling.
After diligent work, the Command shall facilitate and ensure their safe return to their State.
