CHILD RIGHTS IMPLEMENTATION COMMITTEE INAUGURATED

Plateau State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Caroline Panglang Dafur, has stated that issues that pertain to children are very important because, according to her, children are the livewire of every home.
Speaking through the Director of Child Welfare, Sunday Dombin, the commissioner expressed gratitude to Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (ROLAC) for partnering with the state, to set up the machinery for the implementation of the Child Rights Law, which was passed into law in 2005.
Throwing light on the guidelines of the committee, Director, Legal Department/ Child Protection Officer, Women Affairs, Barr. Nanret Agaba said that the Child Rights Law was passed to take care of every matter relating to children on the Plateau and implored individuals, organizations, governments, ministries, department and agencies to work in the best interest of the child.
The State Project Coordinator, Rule of Law and Anti- Corruption (ROLAC)/International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) in Nigeria, Mantim Dala, appreciated the government for setting up the committee.
He said their objective is to consolidate on the application of the rule of law, support all governments of the focal states, towards implementing certain steps including laws, policies, standard and actions that will help achieve good governance by adhering to the cardinal pillars of democracy and governance which is the rule of law.
According to Dala, the objective of the program is to improve access to justice for vulnerable women, children, and persons with disabilities .
Goodwill messages came from the state coordinator, Child Protection Network, Sandra Chikan, and Technical Coordinator, SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria, Augustine Onwe. They all appreciated the ministry for its support, and ROLAC which gave them a grant to implement child protection activities in the state.
The high point of the event was the inauguration ceremony, which took place at the Old Government House, Rayfield, Jos.
