The Justin Gbagir Led Exco of the Nigerian Bar Association today Tuesday paid an advocacy visit to the Chief Judge of Benue State, Hon. Justice Aondover Kaka’an at the Benue State Judiciary Headquarters, Makurdi, Benue State.

In his speech, the Chairman thanked the Chief Judge for the opportunity he gave the EXCO to interact on issues that will take the Association forward. He pledged that as Lawyers within the Bar, they will professionally engage both the Executive and the Legislature to ensure that the judiciary gets it fair share of the state resources.

The essence of the visit he also said was to further strengthen the relationship between the Bar and the Bench, as well as the need for the private Bar to be carried along in the area of appointments and partnership, towards providing a suitable atmosphere for both Lawyers and Staff of the Judiciary in the state.

Chief Judge Giving his remark

The Chief Judge while responding reiterated his support and that of the entire Benue State judiciary to the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Makurdi Branch. He further said he is happy that the NBA Makurdi Branch has continued passion to promote the rule of law. The CJ added that:  “it gladdens my heart that the Branch is committed to partnering with the judiciary, in upholding justice and enhancing the justice sector.”

 

The number 1 Jurist also commented on the issue of financial autonomy of the judiciary. To his Lordship, the issue is still where it was since his assumption of office.”

On the issue of appointments the Benue CJ stated that he has always considered members of the Private Bar for appointments in the judiciary. However, he said when the embargo on appointment is lifted by the Benue State Government, members of the Private Bar will be carried along.

He finally said that “the judiciary system cannot function well without the support of the NBA, just as the NBA cannot function without the Judiciary.”
