OPERATION WHIRL STROKE COMMANDER REASSURES AGATU LGA OF GOVERNMENT’S COMMITMENT TO SECURITY

The Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Moses Gara, has reiterated his commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the people of Agatu Local Government Area. He made this known during a visit to Iwarri, London, and Ikpele villages in Agatu LGA on Thursday, August 7, 2025, alongside a high-powered delegation comprising senior military officers, police, Civil Defence Corps, DSS, and Navy personnel.
The delegation, which included Lt. Colonel Agwon, Commanding Officer, 72 Special Force Battalion; Lt. Col S.O. Lawal, the Component Commander of the Nigeria Police Force; the Component Commander of the Nigeria Navy; and several other senior officers and lieutenants, was received by the Chairman of Agatu LGA, Hon. (Amb). James Melvin Ejeh.
During the visit, Major General Gara commenced a comprehensive clearance operation in Agatu Local Government Area, accompanied by the strategic deployment of troops to boundary communities affected by the renewed insecurity. In a stern warning to criminal herdsmen operating in the area, he urged them to vacate and allow peace to prevail, underscoring the operation’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Agatu LGA.
“We will work tirelessly to prevent further attacks and bring those responsible to justice,” Major General Gara said. “The peace that has returned to Agatu over this period has been a model for peace in North Central Nigeria, and we will not allow criminal elements benefiting from the status quo to take Agatu back to the dark days of criminality.” Agatu will be cleared of all armed herders and bad elements immediately.
Hon. Ejeh, in his remarks, extended his sincere appreciation to the security agencies for their tireless efforts in maintaining peace and security in the area. “We will continue to foster a strong collaborative relationship with them to ensure our communities remain safe and secure,” he stated. Furthermore, he expressed his profound gratitude to Governor Hyacinth I. Alia for his unwavering commitment to combating criminality in the state, noting that Agatu Local Government Area has greatly benefited from His Excellency’s security initiatives aimed at protecting lives and properties.
The visit follows renewed attacks on some villages in Agatu LGA, leading to the displacement of residents. However, with Operation Whirl Stroke’s commitment and local government support, residents can rest assured of their safety.
